Patrick Stewart Dies At 86

Beloved actor Patrick Stewart has died at the age of 86. The veteran of stage and screen was best known for his many years as Star Trek's Jean-Luc Picard and X-Men's Charles Xavier, though he also had notable roles in video games, including The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. "We announce with grew sorrow the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, in the loving care of his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dimentia" a statement on his official Instagram reads. "He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all. We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace." Stewart's role as Picard made him a household name, and following the conclusion of Star Trek: The Next Generation, he reprised the role in several Star Trek films as well as the series Star Trek: Picard. Though best known for his live-action roles like Picard and Xavier, Stewart was also known for his iconic voice. Alongside the aforementioned games like Oblivion and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (and its sequel), Stewart had voice roles in everything from American Dad to The Prince of Egypt. He also narrated the Ted movies, with his friend Ian McKellen taking over the role for the recent Ted series on Peacock...

WoW: Forever Won’t Have Dead Servers

World of Warcraft: Forever will avoid repeating WoW Classic's mistakes and will have tools to prevent "dead" or "unsustainable" server rulesets, Blizzard said. In the past, various WoW Classic servers became "dead" over time, as players either stopped playing or transferred to other servers. Those massive drops in population had major ramifications for players left on the server being unable to find groups for raids or dungeons, as well as for the server's economy and auction house. In some extreme cases, Blizzard gave away free character transfers so players could leave their "dead" servers behind. While Forever is going a different route with what are essentially mega servers tailored around specific rulesets, some players might still have anxiety when it comes to picking a ruleset that will be a healthy place to play long-term.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVyhnixdPQg In the latest episode of the WoW: Forever podcast, Blizzard said it has tools it can use if a ruleset's population becomes "unsustainable." Senior game designer Josh Greenfield gave the example of Forever's separate RP and (newly added) RP-PvP server rulesets. He said there were initially concerns about splitting up the RP community, fearing that one or both of the rulesets wouldn't be able to stand the test of time. He said Blizzard now believes "it will be fine," but does have options should the worst happen.  "If someday down the line, if something happens and one or both of those populations can't quite sustain themselves, we have options if we do need to say link up their auction houses or allow them to group for instanced content," Greenfield said. Greenfield said it's not something Blizzard will jump to unless absolutely necessary and that it's committed to its current separate-ruleset path. Blizzard debated the idea of rulesets during Forever's development and discussed letting players from different rulesets group together for instanced content or combining auction houses. However, it landed on wanting to maintain distinct communities, in part because of the differences in server economies when it comes to PvE and PvP rulesets, with Greenfield using an example of how it's easier to farm for gold and items on a PvE server. That in turn opened up debates on whether these cross-ruleset players would be able to trade items with one another and the need for other restrictions. "Ultimately, these are different mindsets, these are different rulesets," Greenfield said the team decided. "Let's keep them separate for now. That is a part of original WoW that we don't want to just throw out completely. But I think the tech is set up in such a way that if we ever did really feel like we needed to make a change, we could do so." He said those options are merely "levers we can pull if we need to" and that it's important for Blizzard to "stay flexible." That's good news, and will likely give players worried about choosing the wrong ruleset some relief.  Blizzard is keeping busy in the handful of days left before Forever's launch. It previously detailed how it's making improvements to Forever's divisive layering system in time for release, and announced major changes to racial abilities.  In a first for WoW, Forever will be fully playable on a controller. WoW executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale recently said Forever's controller support is a step towards WoW being playable "wherever you want" and "on whatever you want." WoW: Forever arrives November 4. If you want to be ready for launch day, you can technically make up to three WoW: Forever characters right now...

Artist With Music In GTA 6 Had No Idea About Any Of That

Cliff Richard is among the numerous famous artists who are lending their music to Rockstar's GTA 6, with Richard's classic tune "Devil Woman" appearing in the Netflix Extended Look. Richard, 86, didn't know about any of that, however, or that GTA 6 is a game and not a TV show. Speaking to The Times (via Dexerto), Richard said of the partnership with Rockstar for GTA 6: "I was told this happened!" He said his nephew's sons told him about it. "They didn't realize I could sing like that," he said. Lucia in GTA 6. Richard was eventually made aware of GTA 6, but the singer doesn't know what that is. “The show is a game show, isn’t it, really? One of the biggest on TV?” he asked. "Devil Woman" was originally released in 1976, so it's now 50 years old. Richard said he's pretty jazzed about the fact that young people will hear his music. “People will no longer just say, ‘Oh, Cliff Richard is from the past,’” he said. “Because I am, but that past is what makes everything what it is today." It was reported that Spotify streams of "Devil Woman" surged massively following the Netflix Extended Look in August. For more on the music of GTA 6, be sure to check out GameSpot's rundown of all the songs in the game. The game's official score by Justice is releasing on December 11, and it will be available to stream and buy on physical media. The same cannot be said for the game itself, which is a digital exclusive. The game will be sold at retailers, but there is no disc: just a code in a box. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the game's file size is gargantuan...

A PUBG TV Show Is Coming To Netflix, Starring Donald Glover

Krafton and Netflix today announced a live-action TV show based on PUBG, and it will star Emmy-winner Donald Glover. In fact, Glover will not only star, but also direct, write, and executive produce the show, along with his brother, Stephen Glover, as writer and executive producer. That's all Krafton had to say in its announcement, so it sounds like early days for the PUBG series. A PUBG animated series is on the way, too, from Castlevania's Adi Shankar. Donald Glover is no stranger to video games, as he voiced Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this year. He also partnered with Ubisoft for a Far Cry 4 trailer. Krafton has maintained that it sees PUBG not just as a game, but a connected universe, so it's only fitting that the company would get into TV. PUBG is a battle royale game where players duke it out to be the last person or team standing. The game remains immensely popular, boasting more than 785,000 peak concurrent users on Steam alone today...

Ubisoft Is Pumping The Brakes On Assassin’s Creed Remakes For Now

What's next for the Assassin's Creed franchise? Following the successful launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced earlier this--which sold very well--you'd imagine that Ubisoft would be looking to fast-track another remake while it continues work on future titles. That's not the case, as Ubisoft dropped a new update on all things Assassin's Creed, including confirmation that it's not currently working on any remakes. "One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin's Creed remake actively in development," Ubisoft wrote. "Our teams are already focused on the next chapter of Assassin's Creed titles, including projects you haven't heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories." While you shouldn't expect another Assassin's Creed remake anytime soon, Ubisoft added that it will still keep "exploring opportunities" to bring older titles back. As for future projects, Ubisoft said that it's making "good progress" on its darker Assassin's Creed experience, Codename Hexe. An update on it will arrive in 2027, and Ubisoft added that the team remains focused on delivering a "unique vision" at the heart of this project. The other in-development title, Codename Invictus, is also taking shape behind the scenes. This will be a multiplayer Assassin's Creed game, and Ubisoft says hundreds of players recently got to go hands-on with an early prototype. "One piece of feedback came through clearly though: Players saw great potential in the foundations but wanted more of the pillars that define Assassin's Creed. The team spent the past months acting on it, and Invictus is now evolving in an exciting direction that better reflects those pillars while staying true to its multiplayer ambitions," Ubisoft wrote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHoZjka6h2U For current games, Black Flag Resynced players can download one final major update. This adds New Game Plus, Nightmare Mode, new rewards, finishers, trinkets, and additional customization options to the Black Flag remake. Assassin's Creed Valhalla players aren't being left out in the cold either, as New Game Plus is being added to the Viking saga on November 5. A heavily requested feature for this particular Assassin's Creed game, the update will also add an optional progression mode where Gear, Runes, and Masteries all contribute to Eivor's overall power ranking. Players can also earn new gear and a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe's look in Assassin's Creed Shadows; a new Mithril resource is being added, and you can upgrade your gear to a new "Divine" level. While the news is good for Assassin's Creed fans, it comes amid restructuring at Ubisoft that has led to several canceled games, shut-down studios, and layoffs. Trials developer RedLynx is on the chopping block, while 72 people from Ubisoft Singapore--the studio behind Skull & Bones--were recently laid off...

WoW: Forever Controller Support Is A First Step To Playing The MMO On “Whatever You Want”

World of Warcraft: Forever will launch with full controller support, a first for the various versions of Blizzard's longrunning PC-exclusive MMORPG. According to Blizzard, the option to play on controller is the "first leg of a journey" to make WoW playable "on whatever you want."  Speaking to GamesRadar, WoW executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale said Blizzard's goal is to eventually have WoW playable "wherever you want, and, at some point, on whatever you want." The first step on that road, however, is ensuring controller support works really well. Blizzard is using the launch of Forever on November 4, the latest version of its MMO that reimagines the game's classic world and gameplay with new content and features, as a starting point. "Looking at where things are going when we hear about Project Helix [the codename for Xbox's next console], et cetera, I think platforms will be a bit more ubiquitous," Longdale said.  She continued: "I think just doing some of the work we're doing on gamepad [support] is going to give players a lot of flexibility that I think goes beyond consoles." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvueCoFTkCk Having gone hands-on with Forever's controller support during BlizzCon 2026, I can say it works surprisingly well for a game that has been played almost exclusively with mouse and keyboard for 22 years. While modern WoW has added some barebones controller options in recent years, Forever's implementation is far superior, working seamlessly without the need for player-made addons like ConsolePort to make it usable.  You have a surprisingly number of keybinds available at your fingertips (28, to be exact), making combat and interacting with quest NPCs a breeze. Inventory management and navigating menus is a little more cumbersome, but it does feel like a decent tradeoff for being able to play on a controller or a handheld, like the Xbox ROG Ally X.  When WoW might be playable on something other than a PC remains to be seen, though Blizzard has made clear that if it were making a console version, it wouldn't exactly be a secret.  But that doesn't mean WoW on consoles is still years away. Xbox's next console, Project Helix, is rumored to be a hybrid device capable of playing console and PC games, meaning WoW would likely be playable on it. According to a recent report, Project Helix is aiming for a 2028 release, may include a handheld component, and could possibly cost between $1,200 and $1,800 if Microsoft doesn't subsidize it. In the meantime, Blizzard is plenty busy getting ready for Forever's launch, including reworking racial abilities and making improvements to the game's divisive layering system. If you bought the MMO's new optional playable race, the Skyborne, you can technically make your WoW: Forever character right now ahead of launch day. WoW: Forever launches November 4...

You All Guessed Elder Scrolls 6’s Name, And Now Here’s The Game’s Setup – Report

After eight years, Xbox is reportedly preparing to reintroduce The Elder Scrolls VI to the world. And this time, the game will apparently get an official subtitle: Sentinel. According to The Verge, Bethesda could reveal the full name next month in celebration of Skyrim's 15th anniversary. That's not all, though. The report states that Hammerfell will serve as the setting for Sentinel. It's a massive region that's southwest of Skyrim and probably best known for being playable in The Elder Scrolls Online. As for the narrative, the RPG "will be the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls," per The Verge. That means discovering "the secrets of these mysterious ancient artifacts" in Sentinel. It's unknown how much Bethesda will showcase, if the re-reveal does in fact happen in November. However, the report states that gameplay demonstrations are taking place, following up Xbox CEO Asha Sharma saying she saw the game in August. At that time, Sharma teased The Elder Scrolls VI's subtitle, and fans correctly figured out it's Sentinel--at least reportedly right now. She also noted that the game's "scale and grandeur are incredible." Earlier this year, Skyrim director Todd Howard expressed that he knows his team at Bethesda needs "to get it right" with The Elder Scrolls VI. The majority of people at Bethesda Game Studios are working on the RPG currently. As for whether The Elder Scrolls 6 could be an Xbox console exclusive, Sharma is playing coy about that possibility. What we do know is that Bethesda has a new logo. ...

Xbox Wants To Be More Profitable Than PlayStation And Nintendo By 2030

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has an ambitious goal: not only to make Xbox more lucrative, but to surpass the profit margins of its biggest gaming rivals, Sony and Nintendo. Speaking to CNBC, Sharma said Microsoft was working to achieve this goal by mid-2030 and had a variety of plans in place, from focusing on more exclusive titles to gaining more ground in the casual games market. "We will build long-term plans for our biggest franchises across film, television, consumer products, sponsorship, live experiences, and form new partnerships globally, including China," Sharma wrote in an Xbox memo, adding that the company will invest heavily in Minecraft and that revenue growth is expected to speed up in the 2028 and 2029 fiscal years. "By Financial Year 2030, our ambition is to be halfway to our long-term daily-player goal with sustained double-digit growth in players and engagement and industry-leading margins," she wrote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzqGbNaOROA While Sharma aims to increase Xbox's player and revenue growth in the fiscal year ending June 2027, things don't look too good for the division right now. According to Circana tracking data, US Xbox Series hardware sales fell 27% year-over-year in September 2026--reaching a new all-time September low--and Sharma recently posted online that revenue had declined in the most recent financial quarter. Sharma added that "console sales remain constrained by supply," but she was vague on the specifics. At the same time, Xbox console prices rose again in August, making it more expensive than ever to buy one compared with its original launch price in November 2020. Xbox has also gone through a brutal "reset" phase ever since Sharma took over, with over 1,600 jobs eliminated and several studios cut from the Xbox portfolio. If Microsoft wants to make Xbox more profitable than Sony and Nintendo, it could face an uphill battle, as Xbox recorded a 10% quarterly revenue decline. By comparison, CNBC reported that Sony reached a 9.9% operating margin from game and network services alone in its latest financial year, while Nintendo was close to 16% in its fiscal year. Xbox's current strategy seems focused on more than just gaming, as the new XP division was unveiled earlier this month. Dedicated to movies, TV, and live events, it follows several recent multimedia project announcements, including the third season of the Fallout TV series, a Call of Duty movie, a Diablo animated series, and a Minecraft theme park opening in 2027...

Xbox’s Recent Efforts Haven’t Changed Anything And The Future Remains Bleak, Expert Says

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has undertaken a number of efforts thus far to help get the business back into a healthy place, and nothing has worked, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella says. He told The Game Business that based on the sales and engagement data he sees for the US gaming industry, "I'm not seeing [the moves] have any positive impact" for Xbox. The disc-to-digital program "hasn't changed their sales of new physical software trend at all," he added. Additionally, making Gears of War: E-Day exclusive on console to Xbox "hasn't made any difference" in terms of selling more Xbox hardware. In fact, Xbox sales continue to spiral. Sharma says there is a supply issue, but, in the US at least, you can get a new Xbox very easily. Piscatella said E-Day is a "Gears-ass Gears of War game," and a gorgeous one. But making it exclusive to Xbox created a scenario where "you chop the legs out" from under its potential potential to boost Xbox generally. "At least in the short term, it hasn't made a difference," he said. There was clear and obvious evidence that E-Day was planned for PS5, but it was never released on Sony's console. Other industry experts said Microsoft purposefully sent E-Day out to die "for hearts and minds." https://www.youtube.com/shorts/GXQ7IiT_gWY Additionally, Piscatella said Sharma's decision to remove new Call of Duty games from Game Pass was another loser of a decision. He said the data he's seeing shows that the Call of Duty franchise "lost a ton of engagement" due to Modern Warfare 4 being stripped out of Game Pass. "And you got no benefit. It’s really hard to find any signs of positivity or hope on that platform right now," he said. Piscatella went on to say that the efforts Microsoft is undertaking are for "Twitter likes" from hardcore fans. "But other than that, in terms of actual results, I'm not seeing anything right now," he said. Sharma's turnaround plan for Xbox was never expected to yield immediate results--she only took the job in February and she inherited numerous foundational problems. In a memo to staff seen by CNBC, Sharma said she's taking a "long-term" view to help turn things around, and that includes pushing every studio to return to growth for players and revenue by the end of the fiscal year ending June 2027. Beyond games, Sharma has established a unit called XP, which will expand Xbox's games across film, TV, consumer products, sponsorships, and live experiences, as well as new initiatives in China. Also in the memo, Sharma said she will push her teams to help Xbox get back in line with rivals Sony and Nintendo by 2027 in terms of profit margins, and then beat them by mid-2030. For comparison, Xbox currently reports about a 3% internal margin, which compares to 9.9% for PlayStation and 16% for Nintendo, according to CNBC. A 3% profit margin means that for every $100 that Xbox brings in, it spent $97 to do so and keeps $3. A higher profit margin is better, and that's what Sharma is pushing for...

Phantom Blade Zero Is Already Proving Its Prelaunch Hype Was No Fluke

Just a few hours into launch, Phantom Blade Zero is already a hit game on PC. There was considerable hype behind the game as it was estimated that it had sold 1 million units before launch, and at the time of writing, it has peaked on Steam with 723,876 concurrent players. That's an impressive start for the game, and considering that it's also available on PS5, it's likely that quite a few people are enjoying its mix of soulslike-adjacent action, fight scenes choreographed by movie legend Donnie Yen, and a setting inspired by Chinese folklore. Alinea Analytics' Rhys Elliott gave a breakdown of those preorder sales--when they had reached 850,000 units sold--explaining that 62.5% of Phantom Blade Zero's pre-launch sales came from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. "These markets--but predominantly China--account for 75.9% of the copies on Steam and about 24.9% on PS5," Elliott wrote, noting that the early sales had generated $43 million in revenue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhzva8rV9Q4 In a launch-day letter, creative director Soulframe Liang thanked the fans for Phantom Blade Zero's strong start, and the people in his studio, S-Game, for bringing his vision to life. "This is a game of immense scale, made with all the passion in our hearts. It is a gift from a small group of gamers who just happen to be developers, to every gamer who shares our love for gaming," Liang wrote. Phantom Blade Zero is off to a strong start, but it doesn't quite look like it'll be a repeat of another hit game from the Chinese game development scene, Black Myth: Wukong. That game managed to sell an astonishing 10 million units in just its first three days, and while Phantom Blade Zero probably won't reach that same figure, it's still in the top 40 games of 2026 by revenue, according to Elliott--not too shabby considering just how packed 2026 has been with new releases. If you're looking to get started, you can check out our Phantom Blade Zero guides hub for many walkthroughs on increasing your power and finding rare items. "S-Game's Wuxia-inspired combat puts you in the middle of a Chinese action movie," Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot's Phantom Blade Zero review...

GTA 6’s Cops Will Send Dogs To Get You

The police in GTA 6 are smarter and more capable than they were in GTA 5, and that includes the newly confirmed detail that cops can dispatch dogs to hunt you down. Edge Magazine recently posted a preview of the game with Rockstar's Rob Nelson playing. In one sequence, Jason and Lucia are attempting to evade police when they crash their motorcycle and try to escape on foot. However, nearby cops send out a K9 unit to assist. One of the dogs, a German Shepherd, quickly grabs Jason and pins him to the ground. According to Edge, developers standing by during the preview urged Nelson not to shoot the dog. This implies that it's possible to shoot police dogs, and that wouldn't be surprising, as GTA 5 lets you shoot and kill dogs as well. We previously learned that players can pet the dog in GTA 6, or they can scold it. In real life, police in Miami--which is parodied as Vice City in GTA 6--and other places around the country do indeed use specially trained dogs for crimefighting. Miami, in fact, just welcomed a new dog, Samson, who is also a German shepherd like the one in GTA 6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klc0fQmAL6k GTA 6 features a six-star Wanted system and an expanded criminal profile system that allows cops to track you down with a wider net. Additionally, the game now notifies you if you've been seen by a CCTV camera, for example, and if so, you can destroy the evidence to evade the fuzz. Cops also remember the specific clothing that Jason and Lucia are wearing, so players may need to change clothes to escape. In other dog-related GTA 6 news, the newest episode of South Park contained brand-new GTA 6 gameplay footage showing Jason hurling dog poop at another person, and then picking up the poop again to smack them with it. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. After that, Rockstar could release GTA 6 Online and a PC edition in early 2027...

From Software Delays Its Switch 2 Exclusive, The Duskbloods

From Software has announced that its upcoming Switch 2 game The Duskbloods will not make it out on time this year--it's now scheduled for release in 2027. That's as specific as the studio got, however, so there is no telling when next year the game could be released. "We apologize to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support," the studio said. From Software added that the delay will allow the studio to "further enhance" the game's core concepts, including combat, strategic depth, and player expression. "We have decided to move the launch, allowing time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing," the team explained. https://twitter.com/TheDuskbloods/status/2115805894336536741 The Duskbloods was a no-show at the September Nintendo Direct, prompting some fans to worry about its development state. In getting delayed to 2027, The Duskbloods will stay out of the blast zone of GTA 6, if that's something From Software and Nintendo are even concerned about. Whatever the case, excitement is high for The Duskbloods. A From Software employee recently revealed that interest in The Duskbloods' playtest surpassed that of Elden Ring Nightreign’s.  The Duskbloods is a multiplayer PvPvE game that's directed by From Software's Hidetaka Miyazaki. GameSpot’s Jake Dekker came away impressed during his hands-on The Duskbloods preview, saying he’d “never played anything like it” and “couldn’t wait to play more.”...
